Off-Grid Desalination Brings Clean Water to Somali Vocational School

Product: SolarRO BW60 container
Production capacity: 2.5 m³ per hour
PV field: 7.0 kW

Challenge

A vocational education and training center in Somalia was expanding its facilities to accommodate more students. However, the only available water source was a brackish borehole, unsuitable for drinking or daily use without purification. The school urgently needed a sustainable and reliable water solution.

Solution

We installed our SolarRO BW 60 containerized reverse osmosis unit to provide high-quality water purification. To ensure a continuous water supply for student apartments and school facilities, we also installed a 30 m³ clean water reservoir tank. In addition, separate water ATMs at the production site now allow local residents to access safe water for drinking and cooking.

Impact

Thanks to our solution, the school now enjoys a dependable supply of clean water, improving hygiene and enhancing student well-being—allowing them to focus fully on their education. But the benefits extend far beyond the school itself. The surrounding community now also has access to clean water, empowering and uplifting lives across the area.

Our solar-powered desalination technology delivers cost-effective, off-grid clean water that supports education, health, and local development.
